Hybrid forms, created by combining different manners of preparation, are often labelled Absinth (without 'e'). Possible is the use of distillate, macerate, essential oil, sugar and coloring. The actually primal anise is often left out. Exotic colouring or spinach as ingredient, all is permitted that pleases. This is not genuine absinthe in the strict traditional meaning, but the quality standard can be similar high as well.

Modern Absinthes These one match the authentic absinthes in many characteristics, but e.g. without anise or differ in colouring.	Pastis-like A strong anise flavour, often star anise, and low wormwood. Sweeter than genuine absinthe and typical is a relatively low alcohol strength.	Untypical flavour Uncommon ingredients like spinach or unsusual colouring herbs lead to an absinthe-untypical flavour.
Wormwood liqueur These ones are often low on anise and/or macerated and therefore strictly speaking no absinthes, but wormwood liqueurs or herbal bitters.	Indeterminable These ones are often made on base of neutral alcohol, mixed with essential oil. Most of the typical absinthe characteristics are missing.
